The University's student population was divided into four Houses based on ancient dynasties. The Sheikh's client called themselves "Mauryans" after a South Asian dynasty that ruled from the fourth to second century BC. It was notable for the state-sponsorship of Buddhism. I decided to draw inspiration from this part of history.
Inter-house events in colleges are nothing less than full-fledged battles - emotionally charged with a strong feeling of cult-identity at play. And a sigil has to capture all of those feelings - something that, when put on a flag, could unite the House. Add to that, the legacy of victory that this House carried since years.
Requirements:
- Should look royal. It's a flag after all.
- Should have cult-symbols with deep meanings, preferably linked with the Mauryan dynasty.
- Shouldn't look too dated. It's for college students, after-all
Since Game of Thrones was a sensation among youth at that time, it was decided to use ancient Mauryan symbols but present them in a Westeros-esque style.
